Celebs & Legal Trouble: Chrissy Lampkin

Christine "Chrissy" Lampkin, known for her role on "Love & Hip Hop," was arrested on Dec. 29, 2013 in Edgewater, NJ and charged with one count of third-degree aggravated assault and one count of disorderly conduct. She is accused of punching a woman in the face.

According to NJ law, disorderly conduct is categorized as a petty disorderly persons offense. An individual is guilty of disorderly conduct if he/she with purpose:

     (1) Engages in fighting or threatening, or in violent or tumultuous behavior;  OR
     (2) Creates a hazardous or physically dangerous condition by any act which serves no legitimate  purpose of the actor.

A petty disorderly person offense is a less serious offense in which an individual may face a sentence of  up to 30 days in jail and a fine of up to $500.

Third-degree assault crimes are categorized as indictable crimes. These crimes are more serious and require a grand jury to review the case to determine if there is enough evidence to support a formal charge and require the individual to stand trial.

An individual is guilty of third-degree aggravated assault if he/she:
Attempts to cause significant bodily injury to another or causes significant bodily injury purposely or knowingly or, under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life recklessly causes such significant bodily injury
A conviction of third-degree assault carries a sentence of 3-5 years and a fine up to $15,000.
