Top Chef "Like Mama Made" Recap (12/11/13)

Tonight's episode of Top Chef begins with the chefs competing in a "coffee inspired" QuickFire Challenge. The chefs must prepare a dish featuring Dunkin Donuts Coffee. The winner of this Quickfire receives $10,000 and immunity from Elimination. Chef Hubert Keller, Owner of Fleur De Lys serves as the guest judge.

Travis prepares Alaskan Sockeye Salmon, Coffee Ponzu & Coffee Roasted Mushrooms
Carrie prepares a Coffee Custard with Candied Coffee Beans & Cocoa Nibs
Brian prepares Coffee Risotto with Andouille Sausage
Carlos prepares Coffee & Macadamia Sponge Cake
Nicholas prepares Roasted Sockeye Salmon with Hazelnut Coffee Caramel
Shirley prepares a Coffee Crusted Tenderloin with Garlic Puree
Stephanie prepares Sweet Potato & Goat Cheese Coffee Crepe

Chef Keller's least favorite dishes are by: Brian and Nicholas

For the Elimination Challenge, the chefs are asked to "Make a Dish Inspired By Food They Eat at Home"
They each have $275 to shop at Whole Foods and two hrs to cook in the Top Chef Kitchen. They will also have an additional hr to finish their dishes at Dooky Chase Restaurant. The chefs must impress guest judges, New Orleans chef and author, Leah Chase, and actor, Anthony Mackie during dinner service.

Brian: Korean BBQ New York Strip with Potato Salad
Travis: Biscuits with Maple Sage Sausage Gravy & Sour Plum Jam
Nicholas: Ricotta Gnudi with Pancetta, Peas & Lemon
Shirley: Beijing Noddles, Fermented Black Bean & Pork Sauce
Stephanie: Mussels with Spicy Pickled Peppers & Tomatoes
Nicholas: Louisiana Rice with Chicken Thigh Gravy
Carrie: Creamed Asparagus over Toast & Poached Egg
Nina: Curried Chicken with Fried Bakes

The judges favorite dishes of the night are by Nicholas, Carlos, and Stephanie.
Winner: Nicholas

The judges least favorite dishes are by Brian, Travis, and Justin.
Travis is sent home
