Top Chef "Captain Vietnam" Recap (10/23/13)

Wednesday's episode of Top Chef begins with the chefs meeting with Emeril Lagasse and Eddie Huang, Chef and Co-Owner of BaoHaus in NY. The chefs are informed that they will not face a Quickfire Challenge this week, but instead will be divided into groups of five for the Elimination Challenge. Each group must create their version of a Vietnamese menu while incorporating shrimp into at least one dish.

Emeril and Eddie take the chefs to visit several different Vietnamese locations such as: a Vietnamese bakery,  a Shrimp Boat, and Kim Anhs Noddle Shop, where they taste a variety of Vietnamese food for inspiration.

Next, they visit the Hong Kong Market and are given a budget of $200 and 30 minutes to shop.

Upon their return to the kitchen each group begins to prepares their version of a Vietnamese menu.

The Green Team prepares:                                          
Fresh Gulf Shrimp in Spicy Tomato Sauce (Bene & Janine)
Grilled Pork Sausage Wraps  (Travis)
Dim Sum Duo Pork & Shrimp (Sara & Stephanie)
Coconut Coffee Macaroon  (Stephanie)

The Orange Team prepares:
 Black Pepper Squid with Cabbage    (Nicholas)
 Fish Head Soup with Pineapple/Tamarind  (Carlos)
 Pork Belly pring Roll & Dipping Sauce      (Brian)
 Beef Pho   (Louis)

The Red Team prepares:
Raw Beef Salad with Pickled Vegetables   (Nina & Carrie)
Vietnamese BBQ Shrimp with Creole Butter Sauce   (Shirley)
Beef Pho with Rice Noodles    (Justin)
Lemon Custard with Caramelized Banh Mi     (Carrie)

Judges Table: The Red Team is praised for creating a delicious Vietnamese menu
WINNER: Shirley

Green Team is the losing team this week.
ELIMINATED: Janine (for overcooking her shrimp)

Next week the chefs cater Lea Michele's (Glee) Halloween Costume Party.
