Pizza, Pizza! Sunday's episode of "Chopped" was all about pizza. The following chefs: Chef Germano Minin, Chef & Restaurateur of Hostaria del Piccolo in Venice, CA; Chef Nikki Hill, Chef at Earls Gourmet Grub & Caterer in Los Angeles; Chef Jimmy Wang, Consultant & Former Owner of Hot Stuff Café in San Gabriel, CA; and Chef Sam Nuckols, Chef de Parte for Womack Restaurant in Los Angeles were challenged with creating an Appetizer, Entrée, and Dessert with mystery baskets filled with ingredients to make the "perfect" pizza.
The Appetizer Round called for the chefs to use Thin Crust Pizza Dough, King Crab Legs, Malta and, Vegan Pepperoni.
Germano made Pizza with Crab & Vegan Pepperoni & Shitake
Mushrooms
Sam made White Pizzette with Yogurt & Dijon Sauce
Jimmy made Southeast Asian Crab & Coconut Soup
Nikki made Tomato Pie with Crab, Herb, & Frisee Salad
Chopped: Sam. The judges felt that he fell prey to time management. (He forgot to put pepperoni on all of the plates)
For the Entrée Round, the mystery basket included: Deep Dish Pizza Dough, Rabbit Escabeche, Pineapple Cheese Spread, and Swiss Chard.
Jimmy made Sweet & Sour Rabbit Rillette Pizza with Chard
& Burrata
Nikki made Deep Dish Potato Pizza with White Sauce &
Rabbit/Chard Hash
Germano made Pizza with Rabbit Escabeche, Swiss Chard, & Artichokes
Chopped: Jimmy. The judges felt that his pizza dough was too
tough.
The Dessert Round challenged the chefs with Canned Crescent Roll Dough, Candied Mushrooms, Salted Caramel Sauce, and Pickled Apricots.
Germano baked “Twin” Sweet Pizza Slices
Nikki served Pizza Doughnuts with Pickled Apricot Custard Sauce
Chopped: Nikki. The judges felt that she had some technical errors
with the pizza dough in each round.
Chopped Champion: Chef Germano Minin. He wins $10,000.
