Tuesday's episode of Chopped featured the youngest competitors ever...4th and 5th graders! The following aspiring chefs ranged in age from 10-11 years old:
Eitan Bernath, 11
Mona Ziabari, 10
Lily Nichols, 11
Christopher Pappas, 10
Each competed for a chance at $10,000 and the title of Chopped Champion.
In the Appetizer Round, the mystery baskets contained Ground Beef, Slider Buns, Tomatoes, & Cotton Candy.
Lily made Mom-Mom’s Meatball Sliders with Cotton Candy Sauce
Mona made Cotton Candy Beef Sliders & Tomato French Fries
Christopher made Pan-Seared Meatballs with Tomato Sauce
Eitan made Beef Sliders with Cotton Candy Sauce & Paprika
Chopped: Eitan Bernath. The judges felt his burger lacked flavor.
The Entrée Round challenged the young chefs with Broccoli Rabe, Chicken Tenders, Baked Pizza Dough, & Sour Gummy Candies.
Mona made Chicken & Broccoli Rabe Tacos
Lily made Broccoli Rabe & Chicken Flatbread
Christopher made Pan-Seared Chicken with Poached Broccoli Rabe
Chopped: Christopher Pappas. The judges felt that his broccoli rabe was stringy and the chicken was overcooked.
For the Dessert Round, the young chefs had 30 minutes to create a meal using Banana Pudding, Icing, Vanilla Ice Cream & Brownie Mix.
Mona made Banana Pudding Souffles with Ice Cream
Lily made Fresh & Fruity Trifles
Chopped: Mona Ziabari. Her soufflé was undercooked.
Winner: Lily Nichols. She won $10,000 & the title of (Youngest) Chopped Champion.
