Every professional chef was first an amateur! On Tuesday's episode of Chopped, four amateur chefs entered the kitchen to compete for the title of Chopped Ultimate Grand Champion.
Marissa Biaggi, Keith Young, Dinah Surh, & Elda Bielanski, former Chopped Champions, have decided to once again put their cooking skills to the test---at stake a $50K cash prize, a new car, & a second Chopped victory.
For the Appetizer Round, the amateur chefs had 20 minutes to create a meal using Cheese Blintzes, Salsa, Ground Pork, & Poblano Peppers.
Marissa made Pork & Blintz Fritters with Poblano Tomato Salad
Dinah made Pork & Cheese Dumplings with Soy & Salsa Sauce
Keith made Latin Inspired Pork Crepe with Poblano Crema
Elda made Pork Stuffed Poblano Pepper
Chopped: Marissa Biaggi. Her fritters lacked salt & her sauce was grainy.
In the Entrée Round, the mystery basket contained Waygu Ribeye Steaks, Jalapeno Chips, Pink Pearl Sedum (spice mixture), & Mangos.
Dinah made Asian Waygu Steak with Jalapeno Flatbread
Keith made Waygu Ribeye Steaks with Peppercorn Dijon Cream Sauce
Elda made Jalapeno Chip Crusted Steak with Red Wine Sauce
Chopped: Dinah Surh. The judges felt that her dish seemed a little disjointed.
The Dessert Round challenged the home cooks with Cookie Spread, Crème Anglaise, Grapefruit, & Microwaved Mug Cupcake.
Elda made Grapefruit Microwave Cake with a Cookie Spread Crème Anglaise
Keith made Microwave Cake with a Berry Compote & Cookie Spread Ice Cream
Chopped: Elda Bielanski. The cook on her steak was inconsistent in the Entrée Round & her Dessert didn't quite stand up to Keith's.
Winner: Keith Young. He advanced to the finale where he will compete for the title of Ultimate Grand Champion.
